My first cinema memory

Regent Cinema, Amersham

The first ever movie I remember seeing was Bambi, I remember as they were talking about Bambi recently on BBC’s Room 101, something about making cartoons that can scar a child for life…Ha ha so that’s the reason! I went to see the film at the Regent Cinema in Amersham, which closed on 10th March 1962. It’s last showing was Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.

After that it was down to Chesham and the Embassy. Which triggered another movie memory. I don’t know how old I was or why I went to see “Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines” on my own but the trouble was that I didn’t know what the word “intermission” actually meant, when it came up on the screen, I thought it was the end of the film and left…. strange ending!
